The tranquility of kayaking was a welcome quiet break from the stress of everyday life. It is a relaxing way to spend a peaceful couple of hours on water. For us, the water was the Potomac River at Algonkian Regional Park in Sterling, Virginia. The laziness of the river provided us the opportunity to view a heron perched quietly on a branch while others glided inches from the water in search of a striped bass. We even saw a bald eagle. Others with me claimed it may have been another white-headed bird but I'm sticking with eagle. After about 45 minutes, we made our way to a small island. Because it was a weekday afternoon, we had the clearing all to ourselves. It was the perfect place to have lunch. It was the perfect day.
